Lesson Development:
- Welcome students to ELECTION DAY!
- Have a facilitated discussion about the tableau presentations from yesterday
- jigsaw - discuss which candidate they want to vote for and why?
- Before voting, explain to students how voting is our civic responsibility and it is how we elect our president. Explain to them the importance of having their voice heard, if they want a president, they need to vote for them, because majority wins.
- After discussion, open the voting booths-

- While students vote (a few at a time depending on technology availability). play a video about voting day: http://watchmojo.com/video/id/11313/
- Students vote
- 2-3 students (depending on number of polls) will vote at a time.
- The students who are not voting will be working on the summative assessment (described below)
- Announce who the winner is and discuss summative assessment after students turn it in.
- Now that we have elected a president, the follow up unit could be about the roles of a president and the three branches of government.

- What was it like to fill out the ballot?
- How did you feel when the winner was announced?
Summative Assessment:

- What qualities do you possess that would make you a good president?
- Why are those good qualities for a president to have?
- How would this be different if only a few of us voted?
- Why was it important for all of us to have a say/vote?
